Most ethical bowhunters limit shots on deer to 30-40 yards, even though modern equipment can shoot much farther - effective range comes down to skill, gear, and conditions, not just distance.

Aim for the vital zone in the lower third of the chest cavity, just behind the front shoulder - about 4-6 inches behind the front leg crease on a broadside deer.
